Get Outside

I am looking forward to this San Diego Spring and Summer. We live in one of the world’s main destination cities, San Diego. Living in SD, we tend to forget that millions of people, every year, save their hard earned money to come here and enjoy their vacation time. The weather is generally awesome, not too hot and not too cold. Beautiful beaches, trails, unique communities, and awesome breweries are just some of the features we get to enjoy.

As CrossFitters, we often tend to spend a lot of our free time indoors. We leave work, go to the gym, go home. It’s our routine and that’s awesome. We prioritize our workouts and in turn our health. However, it can be easy to forget that we workout to improve our life. Being strong and having endurance benefit our mental game, our body aesthetics, and make physical tasks outside of the gym easier. The 10 General Physical Skills: Cardiovascular & Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy, are improved within the gym, not so we can be better in the gym, but so we can be better outside of the gym! At all 10 of them!

There are so many amazing outdoor activities to enjoy in San Diego. I challenge you to find an activity this Spring to partake in, 1x per week. Something you haven’t done before or something that you haven’t done in a long time. CrossFit has prepared you to try something new. You won’t be good at it right away, but your body can handle it. It will be fun, challenging, and rewarding, just like a WOD. You will get a tan, Vitamin D, and gain a new excitement for your fitness. It will be refreshing.

Here is a list of things off the top of my head. Pick one, give it a shot and then give it at least 3 more:

  • Mt. Biking
  • Road Biking
  • Hiking
  • Trail Running
  • Kayaking/Rowing
  • Stand Up Paddle Boarding
  • Surfing
  • Body Surfing
  • Spear Fishing/Diving
  • Ocean Swimming
  • Running Backwards
  • Beach Running
  • Shark Wrestling
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Spikeball
  • Recreation League Sports

Happy Adventures,
